Defend simply offers you an ongoing, enduring relationship with a practising attorney (an attorney legally qualified to represent you in court) at a fair price.

It’s our mission to defend the defenceless.

Is it just insurance?

Defend^ is a different type of product from a traditional legal insurance product. Insurance products offered by many don’t allow you to engage with the person representing you – and, in many ways, make legal work more expensive.

So, we chose to cut out the middle man – and allow practising attorneys to offer an insurance-based product that you can call upon when you need more of their services.

As practising attorneys, we understand that a close relationship with clients is necessary, and as clients, we understand that success depends on trust in that relationship.

We sit here to ensure that your attorney is doing a good job – if they aren’t, we can switch you to another one.

2024 – Defend^

We conceived Defend^ in mid 2024 as a low-cost legal service subscription service which is offered by practising attorneys directly to its potential clients. By practising attorneys, we mean those who can actually represent you in court if necessary.

As a potential client – you get a relationship you can call upon when you need with a person you can trust – that can actually help you when you need it.

Availability & Rollout

Our practising attorneys can operate throughout South Africa; however, we encourage you to have a relationship with an attorney in some proximity to where you reside/live. A good attorney has local relationships that can really help you.

So, initially, we’re available within Johannesburg area generally and we’re onboarding more attorney’s in different areas all the time.

How is Defend^ different?

Rather than an insurance product, which creates a relationship between you and an insurer, who then decides how to handle your case, we sought to re-establish the relationship between potential client and attorney.

So, you get an ongoing relationship with your attorney, who you can call on to resolve your issue, all for a small monthly fee. The power of a relationship you can trust is important.

We’re not saying that all Attorneys can do everything. When there is something that they aren’t the best at, they engage other members of their practice or our other Practising Attorneys or Panel Attorneys to aid. The key thing where that happens is that your case is managed by your trusted attorney.

Versatile Plans

We offer three plans that we have tailored to the issues that our clients face most often. That means we cover the most common situations you’ll face and those that we can commonly help with.

These are available at a low monthly subscription charge, which we fix for the policy term (1 year).

If, in the unlikely event, you find yourself in a situation that we don’t cover, then your attorney may still be able to offer assistance at our reduced costs.

Digital First

To manage your subscription, you can use our digital service from this website. You can also use it to contact your attorney, raise a matter, and see its progress, and your attorney will use it to manage any matter you raise.

Maintaining trust

Defend^ is offered by Attorney’s – it means you have a relationship with both Defend^ and your Attorney.

We at Defend value the level of service you receive and the fact that we’re all actively trying to resolve your issue. So we take a keen interest in how your practising attorney is managing the case, and if you have any issues, you can contact us at any time.

If, for some reason, you need to move attorney, we take responsibility for that.
